This series is inspired by "yobitsugi," one of the "kintsugi" techniques of mending chipped ceramics and lacquerware with gold. Just as the fragments of a vessel have their own stories to tell, the paintings of the jointed pieces I hope that the paintings of the jointed pieces will be a device to evoke an invisible existence that continues outside of each fragment.
Yui Samejima (鮫島ゆい)
Born 1988 in Kyoto, graduated from Kyoto Seika University in 2010 with a degree in printmaking.
Based in Kyoto, she produces and presents art works, mainly pictorial expressions. Currently, she attempts to connect "the visible" and "the invisible" or to show the boundary between the two by using a method of painting that combines fragments of different things in terms of the concepts of time and existence.
Recent solo exhibitions include "tangled rūpa" (GALLERY VALEUR, Aichi, 2021), "Michikake of Boundary" (2kw gallery, Shiga, 2020), and group exhibitions such as "Methodology to Connect to ∃" (TENSHADAI, Kyoto, 2022), " Blue Period Exhibition / BLUE ART COLLABORATION " (Terada Warehouse, Tokyo, 2022), and " Emerging Artist Exhibition " (Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore GINZA ATRIUM, Tokyo, 2021).
