This work is based on the image of a ghost (a mourning god) that resides in a frame purchased at an antique market. This experimental work was created with the idea that by depicting a ghost, an existence that has no outline, and then confining and decorating it with a picture frame, we can touch its existence.
Yui Samejima (鮫島ゆい)
Born 1988 in Kyoto, graduated from Kyoto Seika University in 2010 with a degree in printmaking.
Based in Kyoto, she produces and presents art works, mainly pictorial expressions. Currently, she attempts to connect "the visible" and "the invisible" or to show the boundary between the two by using a method of painting that combines fragments of different things in terms of the concepts of time and existence.
Recent solo exhibitions include "tangled rūpa" (GALLERY VALEUR, Aichi, 2021), "Michikake of Boundary" (2kw gallery, Shiga, 2020), and group exhibitions such as "Methodology to Connect to ∃" (TENSHADAI, Kyoto, 2022), " Blue Period Exhibition / BLUE ART COLLABORATION " (Terada Warehouse, Tokyo, 2022), and " Emerging Artist Exhibition " (Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore GINZA ATRIUM, Tokyo, 2021). In 2021, he won the Grand Prix and the NONIO Award at the "NONIO ART WAVE AWARD 2021" (sponsored by Lion Corporation).
